Grandadrap - A Cruel Festival

What do you see?

A very strange phenomenon - red waters.
It is not due to climate change but human cruelty.

It is a cruel festival in Denmark every year since 1584. In the Faroe island (between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately halfway between Scotland and Iceland), the Danish kill hundreds of the long-finned pilot whales (Globicephala melaena) brutally.

The hunts, called "grindadráp", are non-commercial and are organized on a community level; anyone can participate. The hunters first surround the pilot whales with a wide semicircle of boats. The boats then drive the pilot whales slowly into a bay or to the bottom of a fjord.

Nearly 1000 were kill annually, to show that they are adults and mature.

This whale don’t die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hocks and they cry like new born child. They bleed to death creating a sea of blood.

Quote of the day
------------------
Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals - George Orwell
